About

The Labor Link Podcast is about the brave individuals organizing the workers who make our stuff. Judy Gearhart hosts the Labor Link Podcast, drawing on decades of collaboration with organizers and rights advocates supporting worker struggles in the global South. This podcast touches on many aspects of the global economy – trade policy, international development programs, corporate accountability, and the international human rights norms meant to protect workers from abuse. But at the end of the day, it’s about workers building power. To do that, these organizers and advocates are challenging the policies, programs, and powerholders that limit their ability to organize and bargain collectively for a decent wage and safe working conditions.

The first Labor Link Podcast series featured organizers leveraging transnational campaigns to build power. Despite facing personal threats and closing civic space, they have persisted and remain committed to supporting workers.

This second series is on fisher-driven solutions in the seafood industry. The interviews feature fisher organizers from across the globe to learn how they are overcoming challenges and using innovative and creative strategies to advance fishers’ rights in large- and small-scale fishing sectors.

The interviews draw from ongoing field research to share the vision of worker organizers directly with the policymakers, funders, and all advocates for workers’ rights in global supply chains. This podcast is a project of the Accountability Research Center at American University, a team committed to learning from and with locally- and nationally-based initiatives around the world about their strategies to secure government and corporate accountability.

This second podcast series is produced by Jules Taylor with original music by Jules. Recording support was provided by the Umbria Institute. For other great podcasts on workers’ rights, go to laborradionetwork.org
